TELEMANCER - VFX

Telemancer: September's Story  in the Fall 2021 Game Production Lab at UT Dallas by a dedicated team of students. The game is a first-person puzzle platformer about a young girl utilizing teleportation magic to explore magical lands.

Telemancer leverages magic-inspired VFX and shaders to highlight key gameplay moments and guide the player through puzzles. All visual effects were engineered in Unity with the VFX Graph and Shader Graph editors.

Warp Bolt and Impact

The warp bolt--when used correctly--is the fastest mode of transportation available to the player. Upon contact with a valid object, the warp bolt will instantly transport the player to that object's location. The warp bolt is a sudden release of magic and energy that our protagonist September is still learning to control. If the warp bolt collides with a non-magical object, the bolt will fizzle out and turn dark.

Warp Residue

Warp residue is a physical manifestation of teleportation magic. As September grows stronger in the game, she gains the ability to postpone teleportation until she is ready to manually activate it. Warp residue saves the location of an object, creating a space-time link between September and her destination.

Waterfall

The waterfall is one of September's first obstacles she faces. Though it may appear beautiful and serene, the waterfall is the source of many rivers in level one and threatens September's progress.
